Curing Middle School Comprehension
Comprehension is the reason we read; it helps us gather knowledge, understanding, perception and interpretation. It has the ability to take us to far off worlds, navigate a math problem, analyze a scientific theory and learn about historical events. The ability to read words on a paper is the first step but actively engaging and connecting with the text is comprehension. This is something heavily emphasized in elementary and early middle school but is a lost art in higher grades. With more difficult text should come more strategies to adequately comprehend said text. This website will provide a list of recommended literature and strategies, many of which can be altered for various readings, for teaching and solidifying comprehension in the middle school.
